Mindfulness:

The courage to stay present through thought and emotions.

Being aware and mindful is healthy in general, and I think it is especially helpful when suffering from things like anxiety.

The mere fact of being aware and mindful that I have anxiety makes it a little easier and manageable. When I become aware of the things that cause my anxiety, like getting stuck in infinite thought loop, I am able to learn that they exist, and I can start to correct them. Being aware of my anxiety triggers, like holding my breath, helps me realize and stop them before they get out of control.

This awareness is all part of mindfulness.

The following is from Mindful.org: We all have the innate ability to be present, composed, and to pause before we overreact to the challenges of our busy lives—and that’s the ground of mindfulness. With some guidance and training, mindfulness can develop into a way of living that brings greater focus and effectiveness as well as kindness and caring into everything we do. Both science and experience demonstrate how being mindful brings positive benefits for our health, happiness, work, and relationships.

Mindfulness leads to a more present and purposeful life. Being present in the moment, helps us actually experience the lives we are living and helps us to act in those moments in ways we desire rather than spending that time reeling in our heads.
